Cowboys 30, Jets 10.
Who is the greatest Cowboys QB?
Regular season record: 94-71 In nearly every Dallas quarterback ranking, Roger Staubach is going to come in at No.1 due to what he meant to the franchise. While it’s true he was the first true superstar in team history, there’s another quarterback who surpassed him later on, which was Troy Aikman.
- Staubach might still be the most popular player to ever suit up for Dallas but there’s never been a quarterback as successful in the postseason as Aikman.
- And unlike Staubach, who took over for a team that was just in the Super Bowl, Aikman turned a struggling franchise back into a winning organization — and one of the best dynasties of all time.
Dallas had gone 3-13 in 1988 and then saw a lot of change. Jerry Jones purchased the franchise from Harvey Bright and fired Tom Landry. He then brought in Jimmy Johnson and they used the No.1 overall pick on Aikman. The UCLA product was 0-11 as a rookie and the team went 1-15 overall.
- They quickly turned a corner and went 7-9 in 1990 followed by 11-5 in 1991.
- Then in 1992, they became known as a dynasty.
- That was the year Aikman led them to their third Super Bowl win and the first of three wins in a four-year period.
- Dallas might have been known as a run-first offense during that stretch but Aikman was insanely clutch in the postseason.
In 1992, he managed to throw for 795 yards with eight touchdowns and no picks. He even led them to a massive 52-17 win over the Bills that year to capture the title. In all, Aikman threw for 32,942 yards with 165 touchdowns in the regular season and added 3,849 yards and 23 touchdowns in the playoffs.
Is Dallas Cowboys a good team?
1) Cowboys = NFL’s best team today – I’m obsessed with the Cowboys, who just made quite a mark on the New York/New Jersey area. The ‘Boys deserved all of the praise they received for lambasting the Giants at MetLife Stadium, 40-0, Seven days later, they manhandled the visiting Jets at Jerry World, 30-10,
Unsurprisingly, Dallas’ +60 point differential leads the league by a considerable margin. Mike McCarthy has done a fantastic job juggling his dual roles as offensive play-caller and head coach. This team comes out ready to rock on both sides of the ball. In prior years – heck, basically since the Jimmy Johnson days – Dallas routinely messed around to start a season, playing down to the level of inferior competition.
But on Sunday, McCarthy’s charges played brilliant, disciplined, hardnosed, team-oriented football in every single phase. Dan Quinn’s defense is amazing, suffocating opposing quarterbacks with relentless pressure and tiny throwing windows. Dak Prescott was brilliant against Gang Green, connecting with CeeDee Lamb 11 times (on 13 targets) for 143 yards, while also spreading the ball around to a bevy of backs and tight ends.
- But despite all of that, I have to say the statement above is false – just barely.
- To me, it’s still the 49ers by a hair.
- Reminder: Back in the preseason, I picked the Niners to win Super Bowl LVIII and Kyle Shanahan to earn Coach of the Year honors,
- That team has done nothing to sway my bullishness.
- In the opener, San Francisco hit the road and promptly handed Pittsburgh its worst home loss ( 31-7 ) of the Mike Tomlin era.
The Niners then beat the rival Rams in Los Angeles, with Sean McVay’s team fresh off destroying the Seahawks in Seattle. While the second win wasn’t as aesthetically pleasing as the first, the 49ers should’ve won by double digits, as Deebo Samuel and Christian McCaffrey dazzled.
Who will Dallas play in playoffs?
The Dallas Cowboy s made history Monday night during the NFC wild card matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, beating Tom Brady for the first time EVER! Dak Prescott threw for four touchdowns and ran for another to lead the Dallas Cowboys to a 31-14 victory over the Buccaneers.
In the first quarter, the Cowboys led the Buccaneers 6-0, with Dak Prescott finding Dalton Schultz for a 22-yard touchdown although Cowboys kicker, Brett Maher, missed the extra point. Tom Brady had not thrown an interception in the red zone since becoming a Tampa Bay Buccaneer. But he has now ! In the second quarter of Monday night’s wild card game, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback was picked off in the back of the end zone by Dallas Cowboys safety Jayron Kearse.
There wasn’t a Buccaneers player close to where Brady threw the ball, making it an easy pick for Kearse. Prescott got his naked bootleg on, then capped a 15-play, 80-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown walk into the end zone untouched on fourth-and-goal, extending the lead to 12-0.
- Maher’s PAT attempt was again no good though, but it wasn’t the last miss.
- Cowboys kicker Brett Maher missed four straight extra points, including three in the first half today.
- Despite those misses, the Cowboys still led the Buccaneers at halftime 18-0.
- Maher became the first player in NFL history to miss that many PATs in a game.
Maher finally converted on his fifth attempt after coach Mike McCarthy decided against sending him out to try a field goal from roughly the same distance as a PAT. Mike McCarthy on the Dallas Cowboys kicker Brett Maher after his four missed PATs tonight: “We need to get him ready to go (for San Francisco) We need him.

How many times did the Cowboys win?
Dallas Cowboys, American professional football team based in Dallas that plays in the National Football Conference (NFC) of the National Football League (NFL). One of the NFL’s most successful and popular franchises, the Cowboys have won five Super Bowls and eight conference championships. (Read Walter Camp’s 1903 Britannica essay on inventing American football.) Britannica Quiz Super Bowl Quiz The Cowboys joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1960 under head coach Tom Landry, After posting a losing record in each of their first five seasons, the Cowboys quickly became one of the NFL’s better teams, qualifying for the play-offs in 17 of the 18 seasons between 1966 and 1983.
The Cowboys joined the Detroit Lions in hosting an annual home game on Thanksgiving Day in 1966, a move that greatly increased the team’s national exposure. In 1967 Dallas reached the NFL championship game but lost to the Green Bay Packers in a contest that featured the lowest recorded on-field temperature in NFL history (−13 °F ) and became known as the ” Ice Bowl,” Future Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach arrived in 1969 and went on to establish the Cowboys as a perennial title contender,
With Staubach the Cowboys won five NFC championships and two Super Bowls (1972 and 1978), and the popular franchise, which also boasted scantily clad cheerleaders who were both sex symbols and the targets of feminist scorn, became known by the nickname “America’s team.” Other notable players of the Landry era included defensive tackles Bob Lilly and Randy White, wide receiver and former Olympic sprint champion Bob Hayes, cornerback Mel Renfro, and running back Tony Dorsett,
- Businessman Jerry Jones purchased the franchise in 1989 and fired Landry soon thereafter, earning the ire of the many loyal Cowboys fans who had grown attached to the coach in his 28 years with the team.
- The situation was ameliorated by the fact that the Cowboys had a string of excellent drafts at this time, acquiring future Hall of Famers Michael Irvin, Troy Aikman, and Emmitt Smith in successive drafts from 1988 to 1990.
The team went on to dominate the NFL for the better part of the decade: the Cowboys of the 1990s won Super Bowls in 1993, 1994, and 1996, The early part of the next decade saw the franchise decline as its stars retired or left for other teams. Though the Cowboys occasionally qualified for the postseason, they did not win a playoff game from 1996 until 2010, when quarterback Tony Romo —after guiding the Cowboys to a division title during the 2009 regular season—led the team to an opening-round playoff victory over the Philadelphia Eagles,
- Beginning with the 2011 campaign, the Cowboys posted three straight 8–8 seasons in which the team lost to a division rival in its final regular-season game to miss out on a postseason berth.
- In 2014 the Cowboys won 12 games—including all eight of its road games, becoming the sixth NFL team to accomplish that feat while playing a 16-game schedule—and a division title before losing its second playoff game in the following postseason.
Two years later a preseason injury to Romo gave the starting quarterback job to rookie Dak Prescott, who teamed with running back and fellow first-year sensation Ezekiel Elliott to lead the Cowboys to an NFC-best 13–3 record but also to a loss in the team’s opening postseason game.

Who is the best Cowboys football player?
1 – Roger Staubach – Quarterback – 1969-1979 Pro Football Hall of Fame 1985 Roger Staubach is a Dallas Cowboys legend. Before he joined the team, he won the Heisman in college and then served the country in Vietnam. He was a hero to every team he was a part of.
He led the Cowboys to four Super Bowl appearances and two victories. Everything that was good about Aikman was all of that and then some with Staubach. He was determined, competitive, and he was a leader – everything you’d want in a Cowboy. We cannot talk about Staubach without talking about his fourth-quarter comebacks.
He became known as “Captain Comeback” in 1972 in the playoffs, when he had his first of 23 fourth-quarter comebacks. He was clutch and if there was any chance of winning at all, no matter how slim, he’d find it and he would win it. Not only that but he was also good at scrambling and some referred to him as “Roger the Dodger”.
He was accurate and he was determined and he is without a doubt my number one choice for best Cowboys player of all time. Accomplishments : Six Pro Bowls, NFL Player’s Association MVP 1971, second-most passing yards in a single season (22,700), leads the team in career average of 7.67 yards per attempt, 23 fourth-quarter comebacks, coined the term “Hail Mary” with Drew Pearson, Golden Plate Award 1976.

Aug 7, 2023, 10:00 PM ET The Dallas Cowboys are in the money. The Texas squad ranks as the most valuable sports franchise in the world, according to sports business website Sportico’s NFL valuations, Dallas tops the scale at $9.2 billion, putting the Cowboys more than $1.5 billion ahead of the next most valuable team (the Golden State Warriors, at $7.56 billion).
- The Cincinnati Bengals were the least valuable NFL franchise, at approximately $4 billion.
- The Cowboys also became the second franchise after FC Barcelona to top $1 billion in revenue for a single season, with a total of $1.05 billion for 2022.
- That’s $272 million more than the second-most profitable NFL franchise last season, the Los Angeles Rams,
The average NFL franchise was worth $5.14 billion as of last season, and no wonder: With $12 billion of the league’s $17.8 billion in national media and advertising revenue shared among all teams, each of them got about $375 million just for showing up.
Who is the enemy of Cowboys?
Dallas Cowboys vs. Los Angeles Rams – The rivalry between the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Rams became prominent during the 1970s and 1980s. The Cowboys met the Rams eight times during that span and split those meetings. Two of those matchups decided the NFC’s representative in the Super Bowl, with the Cowboys prevailing on both occasions.

Can Cowboys get 1st seed?
The Cowboys are in the playoffs – we’ve known that for about three weeks now. But when, where and the opponent? That will be determined on Sunday, with lots of different scenarios surrounding the Cowboys as they head to Washington for the Week 18 finale.
- Here are the scenarios for the possible seeds, followed by the possible postseason matchups as well.
- Currently, the Cowboys sit in the No.5 seed and will play at Tampa Bay (No.4 seed) unless they move up based off a win against the Commanders, along with other favorable outcomes.
- No.1 seed – The Cowboys (12-4) can still claim the top seed in the NFC, which not only assures them home-field throughout the playoffs, but the only first-round bye.
For that to happen:
Dallas beats Washington Philadelphia loses to NY Giants San Francisco loses to Arizona (Note: The Cowboys and Eagles would both have a 13-4 record, but Dallas would win the NFC East because of a better division record, and then would take the No.1 spot in the NFC. The Eagles would move to No.5.)
No.2 seed – The Cowboys would get the second seed, meaning they would play at home for at least two games, assume they advance. But there is no bye week for the second seed. For the Cowboys to finish No.2 in the NFC, they would need the following:
Dallas beats Washington Philadelphia loses to NY Giants San Francisco beats Arizona (Note: The 49ers and Cowboys would both be 13-4, but SF would get the tiebreaker over the Cowboys because of a better record within the conference.)
No.5 seed – This is where the Cowboys stand at the moment. If they don’t beat the Commanders, or the Eagles win over the Giants, they remain at No.5 and will play at Tampa Bay next week. The Bucs are locked into the No.4 spot as the winners of the NFC South, despite their current 8-8 record. As for the possible opponents in the first round of the playoffs, here’s the scenarios for each matchup:
Tampa Bay (8-8) – The most likely opponent because this is how it’s slated right now. Unless the Cowboys can move up to No.1 or No.2, they will be playing at Tampa Bay next week. Don’t forget they have never defeated Tom Brady in a regular-season game but this would of course be the first postseason matchup. Green Bay (8-8) – If the Cowboys can find themselves in the No.2 spot, they would host the seven-seed. Currently, the Packers have that spot but have to defeat the Lions at home on Sunday night. If the Packers win, they will get the 7-seed and travel to No.2, which could be the Cowboys, who lost to the Packers in Lambeau Field back in November, 31-28 in overtime. Seattle (8-8) – For the Seahawks to land the No.7 spot, they’ll have to defeat the Rams in Week 18, which would eliminate the Lions from the playoffs. Still, they would need Detroit to beat Green Bay on the road, to give the Seahawks the edge over the Lions, whom they defeated earlier in the season. Seattle would be the No.7 and play at No.2 Dallas. Detroit (8-8) – The Lions need some help earlier in the day, hoping the Rams can knock off the Seahawks. If that happen, they’ll have to win at Green Bay on Sunday night to land the No.7 spot. That would set up a road game at No.2, which could be the Cowboys. Dallas defeated the Lions back in October, 24-6 at AT&T Stadium.

The league added that wrinkle to the first week of the playoffs last January, with the eventual-champion Los Angeles Rams hosting the Arizona Cardinals at SoFi Stadium.
The Buccaneers will play at least one playoff game at home for the third season in a row. They famously became the first team in league history to play a Super Bowl – and win – in their own home stadium at the end of the 2020 campaign, defeating the Kansas City Chiefs, 31-9 in Super Bowl LV.

- The Buccaneers are 4-3 all-time in postseason games played at Raymond James Stadium.

They lost Wild Card round matchups at home in 2005 to Washington and 2007 to the New York Giants. After beating the Eagles last year, the Bucs lost at home to the eventual-champion L.A. Rams in the Divisional Round. The Buccaneers will play the Cowboys in the postseason for the first time, but it will be their first such meeting in 40 years.
Dallas eliminated the Buccaneers from the playoffs after the 1981 and 1982 seasons, both times in Texas. The NFL’s “Super Wild Card Weekend” will begin with two games on Saturday, January 14. The second-seeded San Francisco 49ers will host the seventh-seeded Seattle Seahawks to start the NFC side of things, and the Los Angeles Chargers will travel to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars on the AFC’s 4-5 matchup.
On Sunday, number-seven Miami will play at number-two Buffalo to start a triple-header, followed by the New York Giants (#6) at the Minnesota Vikings (#3) in the NFC. The Sunday night matchup will be an AFC affair, with sixth-seeded Baltimore going to third-seeded Cincinnati for a rematch of their Week 18 showdown.
