Will there be Creed 4?

Will There Be a ‘Creed 4’? How the Third Film Sets Up a Sequel and What the Cast Think – Michael B. Jordan and Tessa Thompson as Adonis “Donnie” Creed and Bianca Taylor in “Creed III.” The film sets up a fourth film in the franchise through their daughter Amara. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures Inc. All Rights Reserved Creed III puts the focus firmly on Donnie and his family life with wife Bianca Taylor (Tessa Thompson) and their deaf daughter Amara (Mila Davis-Kent).

  1. Amara, in particular, appears to be key to the future of the franchise because the character is shown to already be very keen to follow in her father’s footsteps, and she proves to have talent with boxing as well.
  2. The film ends after Donnie’s fight with Dame, and in the closing moments Amara steps into the ring to see what it is like in there herself.

Donnie joins his daughter and they enjoy some playful fake sparring together before they head home. While Donnie is still in his prime, setting the stage for Amara to take over the Creed family legacy seems reasonable as it will ensure the franchise’s future should Jordan wish to take a step back from the lead role.

Amara also would likely have a compelling story to tell, as she is deaf that would come with its own challenges in the sport when she is older, and it might be an interesting way to approach the story. Jordan, who directed Creed III as well as starred in it, has shared his desire to continue the franchise, and he has already confirmed a fourth movie is in the works.

In an interview with IGN, the Black Panther star said he will “for sure” make a Creed IV, and added: “I just want to expand the Creed-verse within reason, but definitely expect other things around Creed for sure.” Thompson, in an interview with Zavvi, said that fans should “definitely expect other things around Creed” and added that she also had ideas for her character.

  • She said: “In regards to Bianca, I’m curious to see what happens.
  • I think for her, contending with building a business and being a businesswoman, I’d love to look at the recording industry, delve further into that world, the complications and challenges there.
  • But I think it’s limitless and I’m curious to see where it continues.” In 2021, the actor also shared with Insider how Creed III was about celebrating his character on his own merit without Stallone’s Rocky, who is absent from the film, but is mentioned once in passing.

Jordan told the publication: “I think that Sly let it be known that he wasn’t coming back for this one but I think, you know, his essence and his spirit. there’s always going to be a little bit of Rocky within Adonis. “But this is a Creed franchise, and we really want to build this story and this world around moving forward.” With that in mind, it certainly seems reasonable to believe that a fourth film might continue to focus on Donnie and venture into Amara’s story, or at least into her relationship with her father as he continues to cement his boxing legacy. 2 Creed 3’s Present Day Story Contradicts Official Timeline Placement – It also appears that Creed 3 ‘s timeline breaks as a result of its present day placement. The movie features another time jump after Conlan vs Creed 2 that moves Adonis’ story up to the “present day,” which would be 2023. However, this contradicts the official confirmation from Michael B.

Is Creed 3 good without Rocky?

Many fans felt the absence of Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky in Creed III, but it was good for both boxers. MGM Creed III, the latest installment of the iconic Rocky franchise, didn’t feature the beloved boxer Rocky Balboa at all. The absence of Sylvester Stallone’s most famous role in his most famous franchise shocked fans, as the legendary actor has played a vital role in every movie previously and has been the bedrock of the franchise.

How could you have a film in the Rocky universe but not have Rocky? Many believe that the absence of the Italian Stallion hurts the film, but Creed III is actually all the better because of Stallone’s absence. Though it wasn’t necessary, Rocky’s unaddressed disappearance in Creed III helps Creed and his movies stand on their own to become the best boxing movies yet.

Here’s why Sylvester Stallone ‘s absence in Creed III is a good thing for both Rocky and Creed.

How old is Adonis Creed?

Adonis Is 39 Years Old In Creed 3 – Adonis’ age is hard to pin down as it was never confirmed in the first film, and when it was stated in the second film, it didn’t make sense with the timeline. A quick online search of Adonis Creed’s birthday reveals he was born on June 1st, 1986, which means in the year 2023, he would be turning 37.

However, Jordan has confirmed that Creed III will have a significant time jump from the second film. While Creed II came out only five years ago, the third installment takes place seven years after the previous film. This places the characters in the year 2025, and based on Adonis’ birthday, he is either 38 or 39, depending on what time of the year the film takes place.

It’s unclear if the film will state how old Adonis is or if it will remain open for debate among fans. The film also may not be following a logical timeline, like in the second film.

Does Creed lose in 3?

The movie ended with a major and intense battle between Adonis Creed and Damian “Dame” Anderson — but it was Adonis who wins in Creed III. The threequel, which marks Michael B. Jordan ‘s directorial debut, is set several years after Creed II, and sees Adonis dealing with an old friend recently out of prison after 18 years.

  1. Creed III received mostly positive reviews from critics, and ranks high compared with the rest of the Rocky franchise while also impressing at the global box office.
  2. Creed III truly challenged Adonis as he had retired from boxing.
  3. But Damian Anderson, Adonis’ childhood friend, came back into his life after 18 years in prison, turning Creed ‘s life upside down in the process.

Dame may have been new to professional boxing, but he quickly established himself as a major force. And when Damian challenged Adonis for the heavyweight champion title, the longtime boxer didn’t back down,.

Will Rocky be in Creed 4?

Michael B. Jordan addresses whether Sylvester Stallone ‘s Rocky Balboa could potentially return in Creed 4. In 2015, Black Panther director Ryan Coogler released the first Creed film, a continuation of Stallone’s acclaimed Rocky series, which focused on Jordan’s Adonis Creed, son of Apollo Creed (played by Carl Weathers ).

While Stallone reprised his role of the former boxing champion Rocky Balboa for both Creed and 2018’s Creed 2, his character is noticeably absent in the franchise’s latest outing. Jordan, who also made his directorial debut in the new film, clarified whether there is room for Stallone’s character to return in future films.

Speaking with Sports Illustrated, the actor-director suggested that while Stallone does not appear in Creed 3, the “essence of Rocky and Sly” will always continue to be felt throughout the Creed films. Moreover, he also suggested that there will always be room for Stallone to return in future installments.

Is Viktor Drago in Creed 3?

Adonis Creed’s opponents force him to confront personal demons, exploring hidden parts of himself and reconciling with his father’s legacy. Unlike Rocky, Adonis fights foes who have a connection to his past, adding depth and complexity to his character development.

Adonis’ biggest opponent is himself, as he confronts his inner demons and triumphs over the parts of himself that can’t accept his success. While Sylvester Stallone ‘s Rocky movies feature an impressive roster of villains, its spinoff Creed has the true edge on that front for one big reason. Both film franchises focus on their protagonists’ underdog credentials and the hardships they come up against, with ” Italian Stallion ” Rocky Balboa ( Stallone ) learning to get back up after beatings at the hands of more experienced opponents.

However, the younger boxer, Adonis Creed ( Michael B Jordan ), has to take on more formidable opponents — though they are intimidating in a very different way.

Like the Rocky movies before it, the Creed franchise is full of thrilling sports action, heartfelt character relationships, and inspirational courage, as well as great quotes that fire up people both on screen and in the audience. Each of the three Creed movies has expanded upon the story of Adonis Creed, the son of Rocky’s legendary friend and rival Apollo Creed, and each installment has brought a new challenge — and challenger — for Adonis to contend with.

Naturally, that has yielded some incredibly inspirational dialogue. The underdog mentality of the Rocky movies echoes throughout the even better Creed series of films. It’s part of what has made the characters and stories of both franchises so endearing. Audiences can identify with different parts of Adonis’s journey, and various moments in these films are anchored by quotes that inspire in a number of ways.

Creed II ‘s shift away from a rematch storyline found in the Rocky movies allowed the spinoff to become a standalone success. The decision to have Donnie fight a new opponent in Creed II saved the franchise from becoming a carbon copy of Rocky’s legacy.

A rematch wouldn’t have worked in Creed 2 because the new opponent, Ricky Conlan, lacked the compelling backstory and history that Apollo Creed had in the original Rocky films. Creed II ‘s move away from repeating the rematch storyline found in the Rocky movies is what ultimately made the spinoff franchise an independent $660 million success.

Director Ryan Coogler brought the American sports drama saga back to big screens in 2015 with the Michael B. As timeless as the Rocky movies are, the Creed franchise has surpassed them in one important way when it comes to the future of the franchise. Sylvester Stallone ‘s underdog boxer is one of the most beloved movie characters of all time, partially because of how familiar audiences are with him.

His story unfolded across six movies, each of which focused largely on the aging boxer himself. The Creed trilogy has thus far followed a similar path, focusing primarily on the rise and late-stage career of Adonis Creed. However, the three films have done a great job providing more depth to the characters surrounding Creed,

Creed III in particular spends a significant amount of time expounding on not only Creed’s story but his family’s as well. That expansion is something that the Rocky franchise sorely missed, as it has laid out a clear and sensible path for the franchise’s future.

Rocky’s iconic Rocky IV boxing match with Ivan Drago becomes even bloodier and more pulpy in hyper-stylized new fan art. After three hugely successful films starring Sylvester Stallone as the fictional Philadelphia boxing champ, the Rocky franchise looked to find a formidable new challenge for Rocky in 1985’s Rocky IV.

That challenge would come in the form of Ivan Drago, the hulking Russian specimen played with steely menace by then-unknown Dolph Lundgren, Drago’s entry into the Rocky series indeed proved to be historic, as his tragic bout with Rocky’s friend Apollo Creed ( Carl Weathers ) would come to serve as set-up for the entire Creed franchise.

Long before Adonis Creed battled Viktor Drago in Creed 2, the Rocky franchise pitted Rocky Balboa against Ivan Drago, in an epic cinematic fight that fan artist _osse_art_ has now memorialized with a hyper-stylized piece depicting Rocky delivering a punishing blow to Drago.

The Rocky franchise is currently continuing with its popular Creed spin-off series, but these 10 Rocky and Creed characters actually deserve their own spin-offs. There are loads of characters throughout the nine movies that make up the Rocky franchise, many of which have been fleshed out and explored across multiple movies.

However, some of these Rocky and Creed characters are strong enough to carry their own spin-offs, whether they be movies or TV shows, and here are the top 10. Starting with the 1976 Sylvester Stallone classic, the original Rocky kicked off a massive franchise, all centering around the sport of boxing.

The six Rocky movies culminated in 2006’s Rocky Balboa, which was seemingly the last movie in the franchise. However, the Rocky series received its first big spin-off in 2015, with Creed centering around Adonis Creed, the son of the antagonist from the original movie.

Fans of the Creed and Rocky franchises may have noticed that Creed 3 was lacking an important legacy character in Ivan Drago, While the film already missed the presence of franchise creator Sly Stallone as Rocky, Dolph Lundgren ‘s Ivan Drago was also notably absent.

Creed 3 took a new direction for the franchise, featuring the original character, Damien Anderson ( Jonathan Majors ), as its central antagonist. Ivan’s son, Viktor Drago ( Florian Munteanu ), who was the main antagonist of Creed 2, was also present in the film as a supporting character to Adonis “Donnie” Creed ( Michael B.

Jordan ). Creed 2 saw one of the tensest matchups of the franchise so far, as the rivalry between the Drago family and Adonis Creed was underlined by the fatal boxing match that took place in Rocky IV, in which Ivan Drago killed Apollo Creed, Donnie’s father, in the ring.

A star of The Expendables reveals that they almost came to blows with Sylvester Stallone on-set. Directed by Stallone, 2010’s The Expendables brought together an all-star team of big-screen action heroes, including such luminaries as Bruce Willis, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke and, in an uncredited cameo, Arnold Schwarzenegger,

  • After the film grossed $274 million, an entire Expendables franchise was launched, with sequels coming in 2012 and 2014.
  • With The Expendables 4 now set to arrive in 2023, series mainstay Dolph Lundgren has shared a story about a time when things became very tense on-set between him and co-star/director Stallone, almost resulting in a physical fight.

Check out what Lundgren shared during a recent appearance on In Depth With Graham Bensinger (at around 4:25 of the video below): “We had some good times and bad times, kinda like family to some degree. He was very harsh on me in a scene.

Ivan Drago was surprisingly absent from Creed 3, but the decision might have secretly helped set up his spinoff movie’s story. The Rocky franchise has been reborn in recent years thanks to the Creed movies, and Amazon has plans to expand the MGM property with multiple spinoffs and sequels.

One of the first ideas to enter development is Drago, a spinoff movie centered around Dolph Lundgren ‘s Rocky IV villain and his son, Creed 2 foe Viktor Drago ( Florian Munteanu ). Details about the movie’s plot have not been revealed since the spinoff was first announced in 2022, but it was thought that Creed 3 could set up the film.

While Viktor Drago returned in Creed 3 as a friend of Adonis Creed ( Michael B. Jordan ), his father was surprisingly missing from the events. The last time audiences saw both characters was at the end of Creed 2 as they returned home to Ukraine to train together.

Creed 4 might make Adonis’ daughter a boxer too, but it would be better if Amara didn’t carry on her father’s legacy. At the end of Creed 3, Adonis trains his daughter in boxing after she expresses interest in the career earlier in the film. Amara was born in Creed 2, but the character was only an infant, making Creed 3, which featured a time jump, the first film to showcase Amara.

Creed II ‘s Florian Munteanu was to return as Viktor, with original Ivan Drago actor Dolph Lundgren (whose Ivan Drago was missing in Creed III after also appearing in Creed II ) said to be reprising his role yet again. Unfortunately, the announcement sparked a conflict, with Rocky creator Sylvester Stallone voicing his anger that a new Rocky movie was in the works without his knowledge.

Dolph Lundgren took to Instagram shortly after to make amends, stating that he was under the impression that Stallone had in fact been involved. News on the Drago front has since been relatively quiet until Lundgren.

The Creed movies have replaced almost every character from the Rocky franchise, but one major character type is still missing. After years of the franchise starring Sylvester Stallone going dormant, the first Creed breathed new life into the series by focusing on Apollo Creed’s son.

Michael B. Jordan ‘s Adonis Creed became the new central focus of the movie franchise, effectively making him the new Rocky. The Creed movies have continued to utilize this idea of replicating types of characters featured prominently in Rocky’s life and putting them in Adonis’ story. Adonis replacing Rocky as the main character in the extended Rocky franchise is only one of a few examples of how the movies have done this.

Instead of Rocky being the main fighter again, he moved into the mentor/trainer role that Mickey occupied in the original Rocky films. Arguments can even be made that Bianca is Adonis’ equivalent of Adrian,.

For the first time in 47 years, Rocky Balboa ( Sylvester Stallone ) was absent from a movie in the Rocky franchise with Creed 3, but there are reasons why his old rival Clubber Lang should still return for Creed 4. His nemesis in Rocky III and played by Mr.

T, Clubber Lang was a hulking opponent who presented a real challenge for The Italian Stallion, forcing him to really go the distance and put his best ability (taking hits) to the rest. After Rocky defeated Lang in the third round of their last fight he seemed to disappear, never to reappear in another sequel or spinoff again.

While it could be argued that Clubber Lang in Creed 4 would make Stallone’s Rocky absence even worse, Mr. T is still alive and well, and after Dolph Lungren’s nuanced return as Ivan Drago in Creed 2, he could return to shed new light on his character.

” Rocky IV ” was my favorite movie in the franchise as an ’80s kid, although the death of Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) was tough to take. We knew something bad was going to happen when the showboating former champ stepped into the ring against Ivan Drago ( Dolph Lundgren ), but the brutal manner in which he got destroyed was shocking.

The way Apollo was left twitching on the canvas as his life ebbed away was deeply upsetting, made even worse by Drago’s stone-cold delivery verdict: “If he dies, he dies.” Nowadays, the film only comes fourth in my overall assessment of the series. When you take a step back from the nostalgia and the irresistibly cheesy bombast, only two things happen in the movie.

Apollo dies, then Rocky gets payback by beating the Russian fighter in his own yard. Big events, admittedly, but the rest is just filler, a mixture of.

Creed 3 sets up the Drago spinoff movie in development in several ways, including teasing the most exciting villain choice. Florian Munteanu returned as Viktor Drago in Creed 3 a few years after his debut as Ivan Drago ‘s son in Creed 2, The sequel gave him a smaller role than before, but his future was already determined before the film’s release.

Development is underway on a Drago spinoff movie that will bring back Viktor and his father, with Dolph Lundgren set to return as his iconic Rocky IV villain too. The upcoming Drago movie comes after Creed 3 made some major changes to Viktor’s life. He became the Rocky franchise’s Apollo Creed replacement as he fully turned away from being a villain to help train Adonis Creed ( Michael B.

Jordan ) for his fight against Damian Anderson ( Jonathan Majors ). This was only after Viktor’s hopes of becoming the world heavyweight.

Creed III didn’t feature a main returning Rocky villain, but if Clubber Lang ends up returning in Creed IV, it could completely redefine the Rocky franchise. Behind Apollo Creed and Ivan Drago, Clubber Lang is the Rocky franchise’s most well-known villain.

Because of this, many viewers are hoping to see the return of Clubber Lang sometime in the future, and the villain could completely shift the series in Creed IV. Clubber Lang was the main villain of Rocky III, and he was a fearsome one. Mr. T’s titan of a boxer had a huge influence on the Rocky franchise, absolutely pummeling Rocky and even killing his trainer, Mickey.

Clubber Lang’s Rocky Balboa cameo fell through, meaning that Mr. T’s iconic fighter still hasn’t reappeared in the series despite his huge legacy. Because of this, Clubber Lang has been a highly requested character for the Creed series, and while it hasn’t happened yet,.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Creed III.Creed III created several different paths for the franchise, but if it wanted a future with the most possibilities, it needed to kill off Rocky Balboa ( Sylvester Stallone ). The capstone of the Creed trilogy was the only film in the Rocky franchise not to include The Italian Stallion after 47 years, instead choosing to focus on Adonis ( Michael B.

Jordan ) retiring from boxing, training the next generation of young boxers, and cultivating a life with his family. Even when everything he’d worked for was jeopardized by the sudden appearance of Damian Anderson ( Jonathan Majors ), an old childhood friend with a score to settle, Rocky was nowhere to be found.

Fans shouldn’t get their hopes up for Stallone’s Rocky returning in Creed 4, but there’s always the possibility that he could come back if the storyline called for it, and therein lies the problem – it shouldn’t.

Although the news was initially disappointing, it actually worked well for the film. Now, with Creed III proving that Rocky Balboa is a thing of the past, Creed IV is already setting up a path forward without Rocky at all. Although the franchise seemingly ended after 2006’s Rocky Balboa, the beloved boxing series made a comeback with the 2015 revival movie Creed,

Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky Balboa still played a big role in this movie, training Adonis Creed and continuing his story from Rocky Balboa. Rocky’s last appearance was in Creed II, where.

Creed 3 makes one Adonis line from Creed 2 even better thanks to Amara’s story in the sequel. Michael B. Jordan ‘s latest entry in the Creed franchise takes a deeper look at Adonis’ family and makes it even more important to him. Adonis’ decision to retire from boxing was partially done with his family in mind, wanting to make sure that he stayed safe and healthy so he could be there for Bianca and their daughter Amara.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Creed IIICreed III finds Adonis Creed at his lowest point, much like Sylvester Stallone ‘s Rocky Balboa in Rocky III, but despite sharing some similar story beats, the capstone of the Creed trilogy succeeds in ways that Stallone’s movie fails.

Despite having a luxurious house in the LA hills, a beautiful family, and a gym full of young boxers to mentor, Donnie is at a crossroads in his life. Damian Anderson ( Jonathan Majors ), a childhood friend recently released from prison after 18 years, wants a shot at greatness in the ring, and feeling guilty that Dame was arrested for protecting him in their youth, Donnie agrees to give him a second chance.

Trying to support Dame reclaim his stolen dreams threatens to destroy everything Donnie’s built, particularly when his friend goes to increasingly dangerous lengths to secure a title match that under normal circumstances wouldn’t be his.

The following contains spoilers for Creed 3 Creed 3 star Jonathan Majors gives a small hint about his possible future in the Creed expanded universe. Majors gave Michael B. Jordan ‘s Adonis a new and complex adversary to battle in the recently released Creed 3,

Thanks in large part to Majors’ performance, the latest entry in the Creed franchise was a big hit out of the gate, and is about to reach $100 million domestically in its second weekend. Hard on the heels of Creed 3 ‘s success, reports just emerged of Amazon and Jordan’s plans to expand the Creed universe via multiple spinoff movies and shows, with at least one planned project focusing on Adonis’ daughter Amara.

The question now of course is whether Majors’ Creed 3 character Damian will in any way be involved in the future Creed universe, but at least for now, Majors is not ready.

Warning! This article contains spoilers for Creed 3.Adonis ( Michael B. Jordan ) and Damian Anderson ( Jonathan Majors ) might have had an incredible match in Creed III, but Dame sets up Creed IV’s best fight yet. After he finishes an eighteen-year prison sentence for protecting Donnie in their youth, Dame sets his sights on returning to the ring with an eye on the World Heavyweight Championship.

To do this, he has to take out the competition, so he stages an attack on Viktor Drago ( Florian Munteanu ), son of The Siberian Express, in order to get a fight with the champ at Donnie’s gym, Felix Chavez, After handily besting Felix in a fight, Donnie realizes that any help he’s given Dame to get back on his feet has been to absolve himself from guilt rather than do right by his boxers.

Creed III tells the villain story Rocky V failed at when Donnie.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Creed III.Creed III showcased Adonis ( Michael B. Jordan ) in the most emotional fight of his career against childhood friend Damian ( Jonathan Majors ), all without his greatest mentor in his corner, and Sylvester Stallone ‘s Rocky isn’t expected to return in Creed IV either.

After a seven-year time jump since Donnie’s victory against Viktor Drago in Creed II, he owns a gym in Los Angeles and balances supervising the next generation of boxers with being a father and husband, far removed from The Italian Stallion and his life in Philadelphia, where the Rocky franchise has directed most of its focus.

This move away from Rocky’s roots is expected to continue. While Rocky isn’t the only character absent from Creed III, he’s the most surprising, especially given that he’s been in every Rocky film for the past 47 years, and how much he went through in.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Creed 3.Watching the way Adonis ( Michael B. Jordan ) and his wife Bianca ( Tessa Thompson ) interact in Creed III makes it clear that the Rocky franchise completely failed Rocky’s wife Adrian ( Talia Shire ).

  • As Donnie balances owning his own gym, training up the next generation of boxers, and being a doting father, Bianca is right there by his side.
  • When Damian Anderson ( Jonathan Majors ) an old childhood friend gets out of prison after an eighteen-year sentence for protecting Donnie in his youth, the champ’s carefully crafted life threatens to fall apart even with Bianca’s help, and he has to decide if it’s worth risking everything when Dame wants to settle old scores.

Between Rocky and Rocky V, Rocky pursued the skittish Adrian and built a life with her, and as the challengers, wealth, and fame came and went for The Italian Stallion, Adrian did her.

  1. Like The Italian Stallion, Donnie’s success in the ring has given him a lifestyle that includes a large fabulous house in the LA hills, luxury cars, and endorsements from fashion brands.
  2. When Damian Anderson ( Jonathan Majors ), an old childhood friend, gets released from prison and looking to settle old scores in the ring, it throws into stark relief how much Adonis has to lose by defending the World Heavyweight Championship.

Along with the fame and wealth he’s accumulated, Adonis has a beautiful daughter, and his priorities have changed a lot in the seven-year Creed 3 time jump. While he tries to help Dame get.

Warning: Contains Spoilers for Creed 3 ! Creed 3 officially replaces Apollo Creed in the Rocky franchise by giving Viktor Drago a similar role to play. From the beginning of the Creed franchise, the movies focused on Apollo Creed’s secret son Adonis ( Michael B.

Jordan ) have copied some of the same beats that the original Rocky movies did. Adonis took on the lead role of the franchise previously occupied by Sylvester Stallone ‘s Rocky Balboa. Meanwhile, the movies saw the Italian Stallion make the transition from fighter to trainer, effectively making him the Creed movies’ version of Mickey Goldmill.

They even brought back other characters from past movies. For all the ways the Creed movies have replicated the Rocky formula, the role that Apollo Creed played in the original movies was not copied. Carl Weathers’ character played a prominent role in the earlier films as he started out as the villain of Rocky.

After scoring a Tko with audiences for his directorial debut on Creed III, Michael B. Jordan could get back into the ring to develop a Creed -Verse with Amazon. According to Deadline, Jordan is dancing around a universe-spanning deal for Creed -related film and television projects.

While there have been multiple meetings and attempts to build a Rocky universe, the latest dealings could yield hard-hitting results for the franchise’s future. The seriousness of the deal is the result of Creed III ‘s success, which has earned $110M+ worldwide at the time of this posting. Details about the deal remain shrouded in mystery, though Deadline says an anime series connected to the Rocky IP is possible in addition to a live-action spinoff series.

The idea of building a project around Adonis Creed’s daughter, Amara, is also being discussed. The anime project sounds likely, as Jordan is an out-and-proud anime fan.

Warning: Contains Spoilers for Creed 3 ! The Creed franchise timeline is a mess after Creed 3 ‘s time jumps and flashbacks create several inconsistencies. The Rocky franchise has long had a rather stellar track record when it comes to maintaining the canon timeline of events.

This continued with the first two Creed movies, which utilized several elements from the older films and rather flawlessly incorporated key dates and characters from the past. While Rocky Balboa ‘s absence from Creed 3 is a sign of how the spinoff franchise is separating itself from the original boxing movies, it is surprisingly with Adonis’ story and other new characters that the franchise’s timeline begins to break.

There is a pretty firm timeline of events for the Creed movies that Creed 3 could build on. It is well-established that the first Creed movie takes place in 2015, while Creed 2 picks up three years later.

Sylvester Stallone not returning for Creed 3 has made headlines, but he is not the only Rocky character missing who should have appeared. The third film in the Creed franchise is much more separated from the original Rocky franchise than the previous two installments.

Michael B. Jordan ‘s Adonis Creed officially stepped out of Rocky Balboa ‘s shadow with Creed 3, which earned rave reviews and had the franchise’s biggest box office opening. The movie focuses primarily on Adonis and the new characters that the Creed films have introduced instead of relying on more connections to older Rocky movies.

For as great as Creed 3 is, the missing Rocky franchise characters have been a big point of discussion. It marks the first time that Sylvester Stallone did not appear in an installment of the franchise he created. The separation from the Rocky movies is really felt when Creed 3 kills Mary Anne Creed,.

In a world of spinoffs, reboots, and retreads, it’s rare to get one that works as well as the first ” Creed,” The film comes out swinging with the franchise’s most realistic fights, a dynamic relationship between Adonis and Rocky, and several moments that make grown men ugly cry (or at least this grown man).

Each movie has defined the central conflict.

Not only is Sylvester Stallone ‘s iconic Rocky Balboa missing, but Michael B Jordan ‘s direction takes the sequel into bold new artistic directions alongside some of the pillar expectations established by Stallone’s enduring underdog story.

  • Along the way, Jordan, in his directorial debut, is unafraid of challenging those expectations and breaking some cardinal rules.
  • On the surface, Creed 3 ‘s ending follows all the usual Rocky movie conventions, but it’s the specifics that really change, and the final fight will be talked about long after other conversations end.

Typically, the final fight would be measured solely in terms of a battle, and what Rocky comes through to win, but Creed 3 changes things up so much with Jordan’s artistic choices, that the discussion is on a different plane entirely.

Creed III jumps forward 7 years from when the events in Creed II take place, and a lot has happened since. When fans last saw Adonis Creed in the second film, he had won a match against Viktor Drago, the son of Ivan Drago, who killed Adonis’ father in Rocky IV.

After the match, Adonis visits his father’s grave and makes peace with him. In Creed III, Adonis is more successful than ever before. He’s living in a Hollywood mansion with his wife Bianca and their daughter Amara Creed. Amara is entirely deaf, and Adonis and Bianca are fluid in sign language. In Creed III, It’s clear Amara has become Adonis’ number-one priority, as he even dresses up as a frog at the beginning of the movie to have a tea party with her.

Why is Sylvester Stallone absent from ‘Creed III’? –

The 76-year-old actor said in an interview that he did not participate in the filming of the movie because the story had been given a direction with which he did not agree.”That’s a regretful situation because I know what it could have been,” Stallone told THR about disagreeing with the new film’s tone. “It was taken in a direction that is quite different than I would’ve taken it.

  • At Amara’s school, a bullying girl grabs her drawing and rips it in two.
  • Amara responds by punching the girl in the face.
  • Donnie and Bianca are called in to resolve the matter, knowing that while she should know how to defend herself, she cannot use her skills against other children.

He also finds a picture of Dame in prison with the assailant that attacked Viktor. Donnie goes to a beach party to confront Dame alongside his supporters. Donnie knows Dame set up for Viktor to get attacked to worm his way into the ring. Dame admits to it, saying he is coming for everything in Donnie’s life for abandoning him when they were young, and he punches Donnie in the face, giving him a black eye.

Dame becomes a sensation in the boxing world, publicly calling out Donnie for turning his back on him when they were young. When Bianca tries to ask Donnie about what happened between him and Dame, he is unable to bring himself to explain things to her.

  3. As he tries to apologize to her for how he spoke to her, Mary-Anne speaks as though she is addressing Apollo.

Why isn t Ivan Drago in Creed 3?

Ivan Drago’s Creed 3 Wouldn’t Make Sense Without Rocky – While the Creed family and the Drago family have a fatal event that binds them, Ivan Drago is truly one of Rocky Balboa’s rivals, and isn’t important to Adonis Creed’s story. Since Stallone didn’t return for Creed 3, there was no purpose in bringing in Ivan.

Viktor Drago is a part of the next generation of boxers, like Adonis, and their relationship is important to the story of the Creed films. The story of Viktor Drago’s redemption in the world of boxing is an interesting one, as his drama with Ivan was one of the better parts of Creed 2, Viktor will likely have to overcome his father in order to break away from the violent and controversial history of his family.

This story was not the focus of Creed 3, however, and Ivan was likely only brought into the film to keep him relevant in preparation for the Drago spinoff film, which is in the works from MGM.

How old is Rocky Balboa?

Plot – Rocky Balboa, now 60 years old, is retired from boxing and lives a quiet life as a widower, having lost his wife Adrian to cancer four years prior. He now runs a small, but successful, Italian restaurant named after her, where he regales patrons with tales from his past.

He also battles personal demons involving his grief over Adrian’s death and his eroding relationship with his son Robert, now a moderately successful young corporate lawyer. Paulie, Rocky’s best friend and brother-in-law, continues to support him whenever he can, but is guilt-ridden over his past poor treatment toward his late sister and accuses Rocky of living in the past.

Late one night, Rocky meets a woman named Marie, who was once a troublesome young girl Rocky had escorted home 30 years ago, Marie now is a single parent of a teenage son named Stephenson and nicknamed “Steps”, born out of wedlock. Rocky’s relationship with Marie quickly blossoms over the following weeks and he meets and bonds with Steps, providing him with a much-needed buffer for his anguish.

Meanwhile, on the professional boxing circuit, Mason “The Line” Dixon reigns as the undefeated yet unpopular heavyweight world champion, often ridiculed for having never fought a true contender. This leads to tension with the public and his promoters and encourages him to return to his roots: the small gym he first trained in and his old trainer, who sagely tells him that, inevitably, he will earn back his respect through a true opponent that will test him.

ESPN later broadcasts a computer simulation of a fight between a younger Rocky and Mason – likened to a modern-day version of The Super Fight – that ends in a disputed KO victory for Balboa, further riling the champ. In contrast, the simulation inspires Rocky to take up boxing again, an intention that goes public when he successfully renews his boxing license.

Dixon’s promoters pitch the idea of holding a charity exhibition bout at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas to bolster Dixon’s floundering popularity. In the midst of this chaos, Paulie is laid off from his job. With some hesitation, both men agree to the match, creating a media buzz that stabs at Rocky’s age and Dixon’s credibility.

Robert later makes an effort to discourage Rocky from fighting, blaming his own personal failings on his father’s celebrity shadow, but Rocky rebukes him with a profound, rousing speech: in order to succeed in life, “it ain’t about how hard you hit – it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward!”; blaming others is the coward’s way.

The next day, father and son meet over Adrian’s grave and reconcile; Robert has quit his job to be at Rocky’s side. Rocky sets straight to training with Apollo Creed ‘s old trainer, Duke, who quickly surmises that the aging Rocky can only compete by building his strength and punching power as much as possible.

On the day of the match, Dixon easily dominates the first round, only to injure his left hand on Rocky’s hip in the second. Rocky then makes a dramatic comeback, knocking Mason down, and surprising the audience with his prowess and chin despite his age.

The two combatants beat each other severely throughout the full 10 rounds, ending with both men still standing, although Rocky gets the last punch. Rocky thanks an appreciative Dixon for the match and tells him that he is a great champion, while the audience applauds the two fighters. The result is announced as Rocky exits the ring with his family and friends: a win for Dixon by a close split decision, but Rocky does not mind the outcome, and the crowd gives him a final standing ovation.

Rocky returns home and visits Adrian’s grave again, thanking her for helping him in spirit; “Yo Adrian, we did it. We did it.” As the credits roll, an inset features people running up the Rocky Steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in response to a call from the director to do so for the film.

Is Creed 3 violent?

Creed III Movie Review

Clear messages about compassion, empathy, resilience, perseverance, and determination. Shows the importance of open communication in romantic and family relationships and of forgiveness, both for others and yourself. Adonis is compassionate, loving, ambitious. He’s protective of his wife and daughter. Mary Anne is a kind, loving mother who wants to keep Adonis away from the trauma of his past. Bianca loves, encourages, and supports her husband and daughter. She’s a successful music producer who doesn’t depend on Adonis’ wealth. Amara is curious, funny, observant. Dame is disciplined and focused but also mercenary and unkind in how he’s willing to get ahead. A wise mentor tells Donnie about another character’s negative behavior: “He is telling you who he is. Believe him.” Co-writers (Ryan Coogler, Keenan Coogler), director (Michael B. Jordan), and stars are all Black, as is much of the cast, with exception of some supporting characters (like White German actor Florian Munteanu, who returns as Russian boxer Drago). There’s positive representation of deaf and hard-of-hearing people, too: Bianca (played by hearing actor Tessa Thompson) is hard of hearing, and Amara (played by deaf actor Mila Kent-Davis) is deaf. ASL is used throughout by all characters who interact with Amara. Did we miss something on diversity? The sparring and boxing scenes get dangerous: Characters are seriously injured (bloody bruises) and sometimes temporarily unable to continue boxing. A character is punched in the face and sports a black eye. A father’s anger (not at his family) during a fraught conversation scares his child. A flashback shows a teen beating up an adult, three adults hitting a teen, and another teen holding up a gun to the same adults. Did you know you can flag iffy content? Parents need to know that Creed III is the ninth film in the larger franchise and the third centering on Adonis “Donnie” Creed (). This time around, newly retired heavyweight champion Donnie is adjusting to life outside of the ring as a star promoter and gym owner. But his life is shaken when a childhood friend and former boxing role model () resurfaces after nearly two decades in prison. Expect violent fight scenes both in and out of the boxing ring as well as strong language (mostly “s-t”), drinking, and a bit of kissing and flirting between a married couple. The Creed films have clear messages about perseverance and compassion, and they offer positive diverse representation both in front of and behind the camera, featuring a mostly Black cast and crew, including the director (Jordan, making his directorial debut), writers, and producers. Plus, deaf actor Mila Kent-Davis plays Donnie’s deaf daughter, Amara, and ASL is used throughout the story. To stay in the loop on more movies like this, you can sign up for weekly,

Is Creed 3 for 11 year olds?

Is Creed III Appropriate for Kids? is out and if I had a rating system, it would receive high marks. Adonis Creed, played by Michael B. Jordan, for those that haven’t seen the first two Creed films, is the son of Apollo Creed. In the first two films, Rocky takes Adonis under his wing and trains and supports him.

  • Rocky is absent from this film, but his boxing glove prints are all over it.
  • A blast from Creed’s past shows up and is played by the fantastic actor Jonathan Majors.
  • I believe one day Majors will receive all the acting awards.
  • He is one of my favorite actors to currently watch and I was excited when I heard he would be Creed’s foe.

Majors and Jordan are electric together as they bounce from their past to their present. I don’t want to give too much of the plot away, but there’s hidden beef and regret inside both fighters. In the film, Creed has retired and relegated himself to owning a boxing gym and training younger fighters.

Majors shows up and wants the belt. As the plot moves along, Creed and his old friend square off against one another in the ring. A lot will be said and written about their final boxing match. I’m a boxing fan and have watched countless movies about boxing. I have never seen a boxing match filmed the way Jordan (he also directed) shot the scene.

It’s the most inventive way a fight scene has been played out. I will watch that scene repeatedly. Family dynamics also occur within the plot. Creed tries to come to terms with his past and how to open his feeling up to his wife, his mother, and his daughter.

The father/daughter relationship is also a big part of the movie, as Creed embraces fatherhood and is a positive influence in his daughter’s life. Most boxing movies show an absent father, but Creed is different in this way as well. Is Creed III appropriate for kids? As you would expect in a boxing movie, there’s a lot of physical violence.

There’s a lot of blood and hands pounding against flesh. It is what you’d expect out of a PG-13 boxing film. If you’ve seen all the Rocky movies and the first two Creed movies, the violence will not shock you. I wouldn’t introduce this movie to your kids if they haven’t at least experienced one of the first two Creed movies.

There’s quite a bit of cursing in the movie. Pretty much all the words are said and there are also songs played in the background with music. There isn’t any sex or nudity, but there are a few innuendos. If your kids are sensitive to violence, then sit this one out. Boxing movies differ from superhero movies because they’re more believable.

The characters are relatable, which makes the violence more impactful. There’s more swearing than what you would find in a Marvel or DC movie, so keep that in consideration as well. For my kids, I have no problem with my 11-year-old watching the movie, but I’m not letting my 7-year-old see it.

Does Creed 3 use the F word?

The ‘n-word’ is used in almost every song played. One non sexual use of ‘fuck’ in a song.

Is Creed 3 a woke movie?

The “Creed” franchise survived its Rocky-ectomy. The saga, now three pictures deep, originally spun from the Rocky Balboa franchise with impressive results. Still, losing Sylvester Stallone’s iconic character could have been the spinoff’s death knell. Instead, the first film without the aging hero holds its own, and then some.

  1. Some story hiccups threaten to KO the threequel, but sterling performances across the board and strong bonds between Creed family members make “Creed III” a satisfying chapter.
  2. CREED III | Final Trailer We revisit Adonis Creed (Michael B.
  3. Jordan, making his directorial debut) wrapping up his illustrious career.

He’s freshly retired and eager to spend time with his precocious daughter, Amara, (certified scene stealer Mila Davis-Kent) and his bride (“Thor: Love and Thunder’s” Tessa Thompson). An old friend pays Adonis a visit, stirring memories our hero would prefer to stay hidden.

It’s Jonathan Majors as Dame, Adonis’ childhood chum and aspiring boxer who spent 18 years in prison for a seemingly small crime. Lame plot device alert! Now, Dame wants to finish what he started all those years ago preparing for a run at the Heavyweight boxing title. Crazy, you say? Wasn’t it crazy for Apollo Creed to give a nobody like Rocky Balboa a title shot so many years ago? There’s a difference this time.

Dame’s ties to Adonis are complicated, and their reunion may find them squaring off against each other at long last. If that’s a spoiler alert you haven’t seen any of the previous “Rocky” installments (or the film’s trailer). Jordan delivers a confident directorial effort, focusing as much on Adonis’ personal life as the boxing sequences.

The film’s best moments come within the nuclear family, from Adonis refusing to open up to his patient wife to Amara eager to take lessons from her famous pappy. These aren’t filler bits between boxing matches. They’re deeply felt and raw, just as they should be. The Adonis/Dame dynamic is flawed at times, with the screenplay struggling to set them against each other.

That’s a problem, but it has nothing to do with Majors. His Dame is a wrecking crew, although that’s hardly new for the franchise. Remember Clubber Lang and Ivan Drago? What sets Majors apart is the hurt reflected in his face, and how his body language reflects a man unleashed after years in a cage.

His boxing style is unorthodox, making it hard to penetrate his defenses. It’s also visually dynamic, giving the film’s boxing scenes an energy sometimes missing from “Rocky” sequels. “Creed III” isn’t woke, not by any meaningful measurement. The story dovetails into young black males and their incarceration levels, but it shrewdly lets that dynamic play out in the viewer’s mind.

No lectures, no ham-fisted exchanges tied to societal inequality. That graceful approach speaks volumes about Jordan as a storyteller. We already know he has charisma to burn, and Thompson’s delicate performance provides a sweet counterbalance. Her character’s hearing issues haven’t gone away, but watching her share how she dealt with the losses they incurred is to watch a young actress finding her voice, her presence.

“Creed III” is still a “Rocky” spinoff, so we get both the obligatory training montage and a sentimental subplot meant to spark a tear duct or two. It’s all handled efficiently, embracing the franchise formula without being consumed by it. The Big Fight takes a huge risk, transforming the ring into a stylistic battle between two titans.

The gamble doesn’t fully pay off, but Jordan understands something intrinsic to the Sweet Science. It’s always good to keep your opponent, or in this case the audience, off balance. HiT or Miss: “Creed III” continues a credible, inspiring saga started by Stallone and co.

Is Creed 3 going to be the last Creed?

Creed 3 will not be the end of Damian’s story, as the movie sets up Jonathan Majors’ return to the franchise, either in Creed 4 or a spinoff film.

Does Creed 3 end well?

Do Adonis and Damian fight? – Image via MGM After going on television to talk about the situation, Adonis receives a live call from Damian insulting him and calling out his legacy. Embittered by Damian’s brutalization of Chavez and his disrespectful attitude, Adonis decides to return to the ring and challenge Damian for the heavyweight championship.

Tony Evers ( Wood Harris ) puts him through a rigorous training regime and even enlists his old rival Viktor; in a nod to Rocky and Apollos’ friendship post-rivalry, Adonis and Viktor have become allies. Adonis returns to the ring to fight Damian, who feels that his abandonment makes Adonis responsible for all the time he spent in prison alone.

They have a brutal fight in which Adonis takes a heavy blow to the gut that nearly knocks him out before he manages to stand up right before the time expires. With Damian agitated, Adonis is able to land a knockout blow to Damian’s head that proves victorious.
